December 2025 President’s Letter
December is always an emotional month. It brings the joy and energy of the holiday season, but also moments of reflection as we remember those no longer with us. This mix of gratitude and nostalgia feels especially meaningful as I write my final letter as President of the National Men’s Tennis Association.
As we turn the page to a new chapter, it is hard to believe that seven years have passed since Larry Turville, Mas Kimball, Ed Trost, Jerry Thomas, our first President Jimmy Parker, and I came together to create this Association. On December 31st my term will officially conclude, and our new NMTA President, Ed Wagner, will take the reins. Ed, along with newly elected Board Members Keith Richardson, Jim Oppenlander, and Tom Hebrank, will continue our mission of supporting men’s tennis nationwide.
Reflecting on our journey, I am proud of what we have achieved in such a short time. With the commitment of an engaged and passionate Board, we have strengthened the tournament environment and helped encourage the USTA to make meaningful improvements to the broader tennis ecosystem. Much work remains, and the NMTA is well aware of the areas that still need attention. I am confident the organization will continue its strategic efforts to bring value to every membership.
This progress has been possible thanks to many dedicated leaders. I would like to acknowledge Tony Dawson, Larry Eichenbaum, and Tim Garcia, who are completing their Board service. Their expertise in marketing, finance, and law has been invaluable. At the same time, our incoming Board members bring significant corporate experience and deep tennis knowledge—assets that will serve the NMTA well as we embark on our next chapter.
In closing, I want to express my deepest gratitude. Thank you for your support, your passion, and your belief in what we are building. It has been an honor to serve as your President.
I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas, a Happy Holiday, and a healthy and fulfilling New Year!
Steve Duffel, President
National Men’s Tennis Association
