July 2026 President’s Letter
As we move into the height of the summer tennis season, the National Men's Tennis Association continues to make meaningful progress both on and off the court. July has already brought exceptional competition across the country, while your Board remains focused on strengthening the organization, expanding opportunities for members, and building a sustainable future for NMTA.
Tournament Activity & Member Engagement
The summer schedule is in full swing, with USTA sanctioned and non-sanctioned events drawing strong participation nationwide. The recent NMTA Team Series event in Asheville once again demonstrated the competitive spirit and camaraderie that make senior tennis so special. We look forward to additional Team Series competition later this month in Boone, North Carolina, and encourage members to participate whenever possible. These events continue to introduce new players to NMTA while reinforcing the friendships and sportsmanship that have defined our organization. For upcoming NMTA Series events in July and August see the NMTA Team Series page on our website for additional information.
Board Highlights & Organizational Progress
At our recent Board meetings, we reviewed financial performance, membership trends, website development, sponsorship opportunities, and several new initiatives designed to enhance member engagement.
NMTA remains financially sound, with organizational assets exceeding $130,000 and membership holding steady. This strong foundation allows us to continue supporting tournaments, charitable initiatives, and programs that advance our mission.
One of our most important projects is the continued enhancement of the new NMTA website. The transition to our updated platform is progressing well, and upcoming improvements will include expanded donation capabilities, grant program information, and easier access to membership and tournament resources.
Expanding Our Support of Tennis Through Donations & Grants
Over the past several months, the Board's Donations and Sponsorship Committees have been developing new processes and website content designed to make it easier for members and supporters to contribute to NMTA's mission.
Later this year, members will see enhanced donation options, including direct contributions, stock and securities donations, and legacy giving opportunities. Our goal is to provide clear information on how donations support tournament sponsorships, community programs, scholarships, and charitable initiatives that promote tennis participation and healthy aging.
The Board has also been refining a formal grants program that will help NMTA expand its impact within the tennis community while strengthening compliance and documentation processes associated with our 501(c)(3) charitable status.
New "Best of the Best" Recognition Program
The Board recently approved creation of a new NMTA "Best of the Best" Awards Program. This annual recognition will honor top-performing NMTA members based on USTA national rankings across age divisions. Recipients will be recognized for their outstanding accomplishments and dedication to competitive tennis. We look forward to announcing additional details as the program is implemented later this year.
Recognizing excellence has always been an important part of NMTA's mission, and we believe this program will provide another meaningful way to celebrate our members' achievements.
Tournament Season in Full Swing
The upcoming summer season promises to be equally strong, with a full slate of tournaments that will continue to showcase high-level competition across the country. As participation builds, these events will further strengthen our sense of community while driving new member engagement and expanding NMTA’s national presence.
Looking Ahead
As we enter the second half of 2026, our focus remains clear:
Supporting high-quality tournaments across the country.
Growing and retaining membership.
Expanding sponsorship and donation opportunities.
Strengthening NMTA's charitable and educational impact.
Enhancing member services through our new website and digital resources.
None of these efforts would be possible without the support of our members, tournament directors, volunteers, sponsors, and Board members. Thank you for your continued commitment to the National Men's Tennis Association and for helping us advance the game we all love.
I look forward to seeing many of you on the courts throughout the remainder of the summer season.
Warm regards,
Ed Wagner
President, National Men’s Tennis Association
