May 2026 President’s Letter
As we close out the spring season and move into the summer calendar, the National Men’s Tennis Association continues to build strong momentum—both on the court and across the organization. May has been highlighted by active tournament play, meaningful community engagement, and continued progress on key initiatives supporting our membership.
Tournament Activity & Member Engagement
One of the highlights this month was the Hilton Head Cup Series, which brought together teams in the 65+ division for a highly competitive and well-attended event. Despite challenging weather conditions, the tournament was successfully completed through the dedication and flexibility of players, captains, and organizers. The level of play was outstanding, culminating in a closely contested final in which Florida defeated Georgia to secure the championship. Just as importantly, the event reflected the camaraderie, sportsmanship, and competitive spirit that define NMTA tennis. For upcoming NMTA Series events in July see the NMTA Team Series page on our website for additional information.
Board Highlights & Organizational Progress
The NMTA Board met on May 5th to review financials, organizational priorities, and ongoing initiatives. The organization remains financially stable, supported in part by a successful Jimmy Parker Classic and Donations from Members and Friends.
We continue to make steady progress on several key initiatives, including the advancement of our website migration and the formation of Sponsorship and Donations Committees to provide structure around partnerships and contributions.
Membership trends remain positive as we continue expanding our national reach.
Recognition & Community Impact
This month also provided an opportunity to highlight one of the most meaningful aspects of our mission—supporting the next generation of players. Through our partnership with the Georgia Tennis Foundation, three outstanding student-athletes were awarded the Ralph Grieco Family Foundation Scholarship for the 2026 academic year. We congratulate Michael (Alex) Hamlin, Abigail Horn, and Caleb Mansfield for their achievements both academically and on the court.
We are especially grateful to Kristi Grieco and all those who help carry forward Ralph Grieco’s legacy through this important program.
Tournament Season in Full Swing
The upcoming summer season promises to be equally strong, with a full slate of tournaments that will continue to showcase high-level competition across the country. As participation builds, these events will further strengthen our sense of community while driving new member engagement and expanding NMTA’s national presence.
Looking Ahead
As we move into the summer months, our focus remains on sustaining this momentum—strengthening partnerships, supporting tournaments across the country, and continuing to enhance the overall member experience. We encourage all members to stay engaged and to continue supporting the tournaments and programs that are central to NMTA’s mission.
Thank you for your continued support and commitment to NMTA. It is an honor to serve as your President.
Warm regards,
Ed Wagner
President, National Men’s Tennis Association
