September 2026 President’s Letter

As summer transitions into fall, I am pleased to report that the National Men's Tennis Association continues to make steady progress in several important areas. Your Board remains focused on growing our membership, enhancing membership, supporting quality tournaments, and ensuring that NMTA remains a strong and sustainable organization for years to come.

Website Launch Approaching

One of our most significant initiatives this year is nearing completion. After months of planning and development, our new NMTA website is expected to go live in in the next couple of weeks in conjunction with the release of 2027 national tournament information. The new site is designed to improve the member experience and provide easier access to tournaments, membership resources, organizational information, and future donation opportunities. Board members will be participating in final testing and review before launch, and we look forward to sharing this important milestone with all of you.

The website represents an important investment in NMTA's future and will provide a stronger platform to support members, tournament directors, and sponsors.

Financial Strength and Organizational Stability

NMTA remains in a solid financial position. Your Board continues to carefully manage the organization's resources while investing in initiatives that support our mission and long-term growth. Maintaining a strong financial foundation allows us to support tournaments, develop new programs, pursue charitable opportunities, and enhance the services we provide to members.

We are committed to ensuring that every dollar entrusted to NMTA is used responsibly and in ways that benefit the broader senior tennis community.

Supporting the Tennis Community

At our recent Board meeting, we approved charitable and sponsorship initiatives that align with NMTA's mission to promote and support tennis. These efforts include financial support for nonprofit organizations and select tournament sponsorships that provide competitive opportunities for senior players.

These programs allow NMTA to extend its impact beyond our own membership while helping strengthen the broader tennis community.

Membership Growth: A Goal for 2027

Membership remains steady. While we are proud of that achievement, we believe there is significant opportunity for continued growth.

As we begin planning for 2027, the Board has adopted a simple challenge: encourage every current member to introduce just one new player to NMTA. If each of us shares our positive experiences, tournament friendships, and the many benefits of lifelong competition, we can substantially expand our reach and strengthen the organization for future generations of senior players. Many of our newest members join NMTA because a friend invited them to participate. Each of us can play a role in helping the organization grow.

Tournament Season

The fall tournament season continues to feature the outstanding level of competition and camaraderie that define NMTA. Across the country, members are participating in local, regional, national, and international events, demonstrating that competitive tennis remains a lifelong pursuit. The Board continues to work closely with tournament directors and organizers to support quality events and ensure that NMTA members have meaningful opportunities to compete, connect, and stay active.

Upcoming LEVEL 1 Tournaments

Upcoming LEVEL 2 & 3 Tournaments

In addition to traditional tournament play, Team Series events continue to generate excitement and foster friendships among players from different regions. These events embody the spirit of NMTA by combining competitive tennis with the social connections that make our organization unique. Upcoming NMTA Team Series events are  the Gatlin Cup November 20-22 in Daytona Beach FL and The Froehling Cup December 27 – 29 in Stuart FL. See the NMTA TEAM SERIES PAGE on our website for additional information.

Volunteer Needed: Supporting Our National Tournaments

Tournaments depend not only on dedicated players and tournament directors, but also on volunteers who contribute their expertise behind the scenes. One of those key volunteers is Steve Cornell, who has long coordinated seeding for Men's Level 1-3 National Age Group Tournaments.

Beginning in 2027, Steve is seeking a volunteer to assume responsibility for seeding the Men's 90 division. This role provides an excellent opportunity for a member who enjoys tournament competition and wants to contribute to the continued success and integrity of our national events.

If you have an interest in learning more about this volunteer opportunity, please contact Steve Cornell directly at CORNELLOFCA@HOTMAIL.COM or (510) 418-5015.

Looking Ahead

The coming months will be busy as we launch the new website, finalize 2027 tournament schedules, continue expanding sponsorship and donation opportunities, and prepare for our upcoming Board planning meetings. We remain focused on providing exceptional tournament experiences while promoting the health, wellness, competition, and camaraderie that make senior tennis so rewarding.

Whether you compete nationally, participate in team events, volunteer at tournaments, or simply enjoy following the accomplishments of fellow members, you are an important part of the NMTA family.

Thank you for your continued support of the National Men's Tennis Association. I look forward to seeing many of you on the courts this fall season.

Warm regards,

Ed Wagner
